[Performance Characteristics]Bowie-Dick Test Pack is designed to check effective removal of air from the sterilizer chamber after vacuums are drawn for pre-vacuum steam sterilizers. This article may be directly applied without the need of preparing standard pack by staff.

[Application scope]It is used to check effective removal of air from the sterilizer chamber after vacuums are drawn for pre-vacuum steam sterilizers. It not only can be used to check vacuum but also can detect air leaks, but is not able to indicate sterilization effect.

[Usage]
It is a disposable device which is intended for daily detection prior to sterilization; if the sterilizer will be continuously applied it may be checked at a fixed time every day.

On monitoring, the test pack should be put on the bottom bracket of the sterilizer and located at the anterior part near to the door above air outlet.

Test the empty container and setup temperature and time; then run the sterilization program (drying process may be omitted).After sterilization, carefully take the test pack out and open it; then determine the result and keep relevant records.

[Result determination]After one sterilization cycle, the color of blue bar pattern turns to uniform black under 132°C~134°C for 3.5 minutes.

After one sterilization cycle, take the paper out and observe the color changes of its blue bar pattern; uniform black indicates normal steam penetration and thorough removal of cool air (< 5%) from pre-vacuum steam sterilizers or high vacuum autoclave with pulsing systems; non-uniform color changes or no changes of local color means incomplete removal of cool air from pre-vacuum steam sterilizers or high vacuum autoclave with pulsing systems, presence of cool air in articles pack or abnormal stream penetration.

[Notices]1. The saturated stream pressure should reach to 0.4Mpa – 0.6Mpa if air is supplied through pipe; and non-uniform color changes may be observed if the pressure is lower than 0.3Mpa;

2. As for the pre-vacuum steam sterilizers or high vacuum autoclave with pulsing systems with air supply by pipe, the time of stopping air supply should longer than 2 days; and air-removal process should be done before re-using, or else, large amount of aqueous vapor existing in saturated stream may cause difficulty in cool air removal and wet pack, which will result in incapability of demonstrating test results due to wet BD test paper.
